application form

1. Choosing your course

Use the information in this prospectus to help you decide which course is most suitable for you. It may be helpful to discuss your options with your teacher, Connexions adviser and friends and family. You can also contact the NewVIc advice and recruitment team by email (advice@newvic.ac.uk) or telephone (020 7473 4110).

We strongly advise you to attend one of our open days. These offer an opportunity to talk to teachers and students about the different courses available and look at the facilities. Our open days are on Saturday 8 October and Saturday 10 March.

2. Complete an application form

You can get an application form from school or request one from the college. Take your time completing the form to make sure you have provided all the information we require. You will need to ask your teacher to provide a reference on the back of the form before it is sent to the college. Our closing date for priority applications is Monday 30 April 2012 but due to the popularity of many courses we recommended applying as early as possible. Application forms are available from September 2010.

3. Attend an interview

Once your application has been processed you will be invited to attend an interview with your progress file, record of achievement and samples of work. This is an opportunity for us to establish whether you are suited to the course you have applied for. It is also an opportunity for you to speak to the teachers about your application so that you are confident that you are making a good choice.

Example interview questions:

If you have a successful interview you will be sent a letter confirming your conditional offer of a place at NewVIc. The offer will be conditional on you achieving the specific grades required for your chosen course. You will be asked to accept your offer and we will only keep your place open for you if you accept this offer.

4. Induction days

If you have accepted an offer you will be invited to come and experience life as a NewVIc student. The induction days will take place during the summer term and are an opportunity for you to meet fellow students, attend classes in your chosen subjects and take part in some of the clubs and activities on
offer at NewVIc.

5. Enrol at NewVIc

We will write to you to notify you of when you should enrol. You will need to bring all your GCSE results along to enrolment.

We hope that you achieve your target grades and can enrol on your first choice of course. However, if you do not achieve the grades stated on your conditional offer you can still attend enrolment and we will advise you on the options open to you.

Note to teachers

We value your comments and would appreciate it if you could complete the reference section of students’ application forms as fully as possible. If you have any queries relating to the application process please contact a member of our advice and recruitment team. Our school and community liaison officer is available to visit schools to talk through the application process with students and staff. To arrange a session email schools@newvic.ac.uk or telephone 020 7540 6950.

Fees and charges

Students aged 16-18 and students who turn 19 whilst on a programme at college do not need to pay for their course. Students aged 19 and over may be charged for their course depending on the level of the course, but the fees will be waived if they are on means tested benefits.

Every student will be required to pay a £20 enrolment deposit which will be refunded on completion of the course.
