Advanced diploma
Two-years, level three
student

You will learn about the world of construction and the built environment and gain an understanding of one of the most important economic sectors in the UK. It will also provide you with knowledge of the social, economic and cultural contribution of the built environment to individuals and the community.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language and mathematics. Students can also progress to the course from the higher diploma.

What will I study?

Through theory and practical activities you will gain an understanding of the different professions and skills involved in this industry.

The course will focus on:

  • architecture, planning, design and the preparation and use of technical drawings
  • design of the built environment
  • creating the built environment
  • value and use of the built environment
  • numeracy, communication and ICT skills.

On the course you will:

  • complete a project on a related topic of your choice
  • benefit from work experience
  • have the opportunity to be mentored by a professional working in the sector
  • have the opportunity to combine the diploma with an A-level or vocational course.

Method of assessment

Assessment will be through a combination of assignments, projects and examinations.

What will I be able to progress to?

On successful completion of this course you will be well qualified to continue your studies at university either in this area or you may decide to study an unrelated subject. You could progress to working in the industry, start an apprenticeship or you might choose to use your transferable skills in a different sector.
