Advanced diploma
Two-years, level three (equivalent to 3.5 A-levels)student

You will learn to think, question and explore. Through theory and practical activities you will develop an understanding of the different professions in the creative industries and gain the technical, creative and organisational skills desired by the industry. Focusing on media, music and art and design disciplines you will plan and develop a range of projects in response to briefs. In the second year you will specialise in a chosen discipline.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language and mathematics. Or a full higher diploma pass and A*-C grades in GCSE English language and mathematics.

What will I study?

Through theory and practical activities you will gain an understanding of the different professions and skills involved in this industry.

The course will focus on:

  • advertising, animation, scriptwriting and filming
  • exploring creative industries including art, media and performing arts
  • incorporating graphic design, music, fashion and performance
  • gaining practical creative skills
  • numeracy, communication and ICT skills.

On the course you will:

  • complete a project of your choice such as organising a community arts event, performing music or writing and directing a short film
  • benefit from work experience
  • combine the diploma with a complementary A-level or vocational course.

Method of assessment

Assessment will be through a combination of assignments, projects and examinations.

What will I be able to progress to?

The advanced diploma will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to progress to university, further training or employment. This may be within the creative and media industries or you might choose to use your transferable skills in a different sector.
