Advanced diploma
Two-years, level three
students

Almost every organisation now depends on IT. In the UK more than one million people already work in IT. The roles are varied and include management, website development and the design of new business solutions. You will learn about the different job roles within the sector and you will develop the skills you need to succeed in IT.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language and mathematics. Students can also progress to the course from the higher diploma.

What will I study?

The course will focus on:

  • the way organisations work and the role technology can play
  • working well with other people
  • how to create technology solutions
  • delivering successful IT projects
  • numeracy, communication and ICT skills
  • developing your communication skills.

On the course you will:

  • complete a project on a topic of your choice such as the future of IT     or a design for a new computer
  • benefit from work experience in the field of engineering
  • have the opportunity to be mentored by professionals
  • have the opportunity to combine the diploma with an A-level or vocational course.

Method of assessment

Five portfolio assessed units and two one-hour online exams.

What will I be able to progress to?

You will be well prepared to progress to a degree in IT or business with IT or other related programmes. Students with this qualification would be well qualified to eventually work in technology-related employment in areas such as IT networking, systems analysis and business information systems.
