Advanced vocational courses

student
These courses are ideal if you are likely to achieve at least four A*–C grades at GCSE or equivalent including a grade D in English language or mathematics. Alternatively you may progress from an intermediate vocational course such as a BTEC diploma (BTEC first diploma). You are likely to prefer coursework to examinations and be interested in a particular subject or career path.

Vocational courses enable you to focus on the subject area you are most interested in. You will learn in a hands-on way by putting into practice the knowledge you gain. Depending on your GCSE results you may be able to study an AS-level or a BTEC subsidiary diploma (national award) alongside your vocational course. Equivalent to three A-levels, on successful completion of the course you may choose to progress to university or you may decide to enter employment.
