One-year AS/two-year A-level
students

You will learn how media affects the way we view the world and how technology has allowed the media industry to become so powerful. You will learn how to understand film, television, print images, advertising and documentaries, how films and TV programmes are structured, how audiences are targeted and the way that different groups are represented in the media.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language.

What will I study?

The course will focus on:

  • how we understand the media
  • advertising and film fiction
  • practical production
  • how people are portrayed in the media.

On the course you will:

  • make your own film sequence or print campaign
  • learn to use industry-standard software and media technology
  • analyse a range of media products from different genres
  • use the internet to support and extend your work.

Method of assessment

You will be assessed through practical coursework and examinations.

What will I be able to progress to?

You will be able to progress to university to study a degree in media, cultural studies, film and TV, advertising or a wide range of other degree programmes related to media studies. Rajeev Kumar (ex-Langdon School) studied this subject as one of his A-levels and achieved a grade A. He is now studying media and communications at Goldsmiths, University of London
