One-year AS-level only
Do you want to learn more about your rights as a citizen? If you have an interest in society, politics, community and equality then you’ll find this subject really interesting. You will study topics such as justice, power, law and order.
Required qualifications
Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language.
What will I study?
The course will focus on:
- analysing the citizen in relation to the state, the political process, society and the community
- interpreting, analysing and evaluating ideas and arguments
- constructing arguments
- topical material from newspapers, radio and TV.
On the course you will:
- take part in debates and discussions
- analyse newspapers and news programmes
- participate in educational visits
- study citizenship in relation to your own community
- discuss social identity and concerns as a citizen.
Method of assessment
You will take two examined units at the end of the year.
What will I be able to progress to?
You will be able to progress to university to study a range of subjects including sociology, politics and law. The subject will enable you to develop skills in presenting and analysing reasoned arguments and will therefore also support your application to wide range of other higher education courses.
Other information
This subject combines well with A-level government and politics, sociology and law.
