Level 2 BTEC Diploma
One-year, level two

You will develop your skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and graphics and gain a contextual understanding of art and design styles and art movements. You will have the opportunity to take part in the cross-department fashion show and exhibitions.

Required qualifications

Successful completion of a broad GCSE or equivalent programme, including two A*–D grades in relevant subjects including either English language or mathematics and a good school reference. You will be asked to present examples of your art or design work at your interview.

What will I study?

The course will focus on:

  • 2D and 3D visual language
  • materials, techniques and technology
  • drawing and design exploration
  • graphics, fashion and 3D design.

On the course you will:

  • create your own art and design work
  • develop your research skills
  • visit galleries and exhibitions
  • develop your critical skills
  • meet with professional artists and designers.

Method of assessment

You will complete six units in total which will be assessed by your teachers. You will also complete an independent project to test the skills you have developed on the course in an area that you are most interested in such as painting, sculpture, graphics or textiles.

What will I be able to progress to?

This course will enable you to progress to level 3 BTEC extended diploma in art and design or you may apply for jobs in design-related areas including advertising, media, publishing or retail.

Other information

You will need to purchase your own art materials, some of which are available to buy from the college. Research trips will require a small financial contribution.
