Level 2 BTEC Diploma (BTEC first diploma)
One-year, level 2
student

The course concentrates on the individual ICT applications that have become part of everyday life in the commercial world. You will develop your knowledge of IT applications and enhance your skills ready for further study or employment.

Required qualifications

Successful completion of a broad GCSE programme, including two A*-D grades in relevant subjects, plus a good school reference.

What will I study?

The course will focus on:

  • using computers in presentations
  • computers in work
  • database and spreadsheet applications
  • business online.

On the course you will:

  • learn how different businesses use computers
  • learn how to use the basic software applications used in business today
  • discover how the use of computers in business has developed
  • find out about the internet as a business tool
  • take part in a work experience placement.

Method of assessment

You will be assessed through assignments and projects.

What will I be able to progress to?

Successful students can move on to an advanced ICT programme such as a BTEC national diploma in business or a course combining business and ICT . Either of these pathways can lead to university or technology-related employment such as IT networking, MIS and desk-top technician.
