Performing arts
Level 2 BTEC Diploma (BTEC first diploma)
One-year, level 2
You will create work for performance whilst developing your skills and learning about the performing arts industry. You will participate in sessions in drama, music and dance and you will learn through practical and written assignments. You will present your finished work to audiences at NewVIc and Stratford Circus venues. If you are particularly interested in music you will have the opportunity to focus on developing your musical ability and music technology skills.
Required qualifications
Successful completion of a broad GCSE programme, including two A*-D grades in relevant subjects, plus a good school reference. You will need an interest in, and some experience of, the performing arts.
What will I study?
The course will focus on:
- devising and composing music, dance and drama
- developing vocal, instrumental, drama and dance skills
- understanding the rehearsal and performance process
- exploring the performing arts business.
On the course you will:
- rehearse and take part in practical workshops
- have the opportunity to specialise in music
- develop your skills and versatility as a performer
- work with professionals and experienced teachers
- perform to a variety of audiences
- learn to critically evaluate artistic work
- see professional productions in dance, music and drama.
Method of assessment
You will be continually assessed throughout the year, and your production project will be externally assessed
What will I be able to progress to?
You will have the experience and skills to progress to level 3 courses such as a BTEC national diploma in performing arts or music.
