Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma (BTEC national diploma)
Two-years, (equivalent to three A-levels)

You will explore how ICT is used in the world of work and the impact it has on the way people live their lives. You will develop your practical ICT skills and knowledge in preparation for a range of higher education opportunities in the fields of ICT, business and related subjects, projects or employment.
Required qualifications
Four or more A*-C grades at GCSE or a full level two pass in a related subject plus two other GCSEs at grade C or above. Entry requirements for students currently studying an intermediate vocational course will be based on their performance at intermediate level. Depending on your GCSE grades, you may also take an AS/A-level alongside the national diploma.
What will I study?
The course will focus on:
- using appropriate ICT tools and techniques to carry out investigations
- the impact of ICT on business and the way people live their lives
- advanced ICT practice in installation and networking
- advanced software applications and the maintenance of computer systems
- the interaction of humans and computers
- communication technologies.
On the course you will:
- learn how to use a number of advanced software packages
- develop and manage websites
- install computer hardware and software
- establish and manage local area networks
- present and communicate information.
Method of assessment
Assessment is through completion of internally and externally assessed coursework.
What will I be able to progress to?
On completion, you will have a wide choice of progression options into further study, training or relevant employment. You will be well equipped to move on to degrees and further study in related subjects such as ICT, computer science, information systems, multimedia, software engineering, computer networking, business information technology, e-business and information management.
