Why do most countries invest so much in their travel and tourism industry? You will explore different tourist destinations and the opportunities they offer. Through work experience and visits you will learn about the skills required for work in this industry.

Required qualifications

Four or more A*–C grades at GCSE and a grade D in mathematics or English language. Or a full level two pass in a related subject plus two other GCSEs at grade C or above. Entry requirements for students currently studying an intermediate vocational course will be based on their performance at intermediate level.

What will I study?

The course will focus on:

  • investigating the travel and tourism industry
  • marketing products and services within the industry
  • discovering tourist destinations
  • customers and employment in travel and tourism.

On the course you will:

  • discover the way the industry works through investigations and case studies
  • work in the industry during a work experience placement
  • research the industry through visits and trips
  • take part in an overseas residential.

Method of assessment

You will be assessed by coursework portfolios.

What will I be able to progress to?

You can choose from various options after completing your studies including going on to higher education or entering employment in areas including the airline industry, events management, hospitality or visitor attractions. Simona Juodelyte achieved a triple distinction for this course. She is now studying international tourism management and marketing at Middlesex University.
