Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (National Award)
Two-year vocational (equivalent to one A-level)

You will learn how the aviation industry works and gain an understanding of different areas of work in the sector. You will have the opportunity to develop your personal skills and qualities in order to meet the needs of the trade and future customers. This is a different way of learning as you will be assessed entirely through coursework.
Required qualifications
Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language.
What will I study?
The full course consists of four core units focusing on:
- the aviation industry
- health, safety and security
- meeting customer needs
- air travel information.
On the course you will:
- research the aviation industry
- complete a range of assignments and tasks
- create posters, leaflets, brochures
- plan and undertake visits to major airports
- improve your communication and team-working skills.
Method of assessment
Assessment is entirely through coursework. You will be expected to complete all the assigned tasks and compile evidence for each unit. This will include case studies, projects, work-based assessment and performance observations.
What will I be able to progress to?
You can choose from various options after completing your studies including progressing to university to study degree courses such as airline and airport management and travel and tourism. You may choose to move straight into employment in the aviation industry.

Please note that you must study this course for two years to gain this qualification.
