Would you like to achieve an A-level standard qualification without having to take exams? If so then this course is for you. With a strong focus on the application of practical IT in the world of work this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge vital to any candidate for higher education or the world of commerce.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language.

What will I study?

Six units are studied over two years focusing on:

  • skills for employability in the world of business and IT
  • computer systems currently used at home and at work
  • information systems for the business world
  • the impact of IT on the world of business
  • e-commerce
  • website production and management.

On the course you will:

  • develop your existing IT skills to maintain and develop computer systems
  • use the internet to research how commercial organisations use IT
  • study the impact of IT on organisations
  • become proficient in common computer software packages
  • develop the skills required to set up a commercial website.

Method of assessment

Assessment for each of the six units is by a portfolio of work containing evidence showing that you have met each of the assessment criteria.

What will I be able to progress to?

As part of a balanced A-level programme the progression opportunities to higher education or the world of work are wide and varied. Information technology-related careers include networking, systems analysis and business information systems.

Please note that you need to study this course for a full two years to gain the qualification.
