Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (National Award)
Two-year vocational (equivalent to one A-level)

This course will give you an understanding of the different elements that make up the retail industry. You will learn about customer service, sales forecasting and evaluating performance. Through the study of real business situations you will learn more about how to conduct business online.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language.

What will I study?

In addition to three specialist units you will study core units in:

  • developments in retail services
  • retail, finance, forecasting and performance
  • customer service.

On the course you will:

  • carry out investigations into retail
  • use the internet to research business information
  • learn how to conduct and promote business online.

Method of assessment

You will be assessed by assignment work, there are no examinations. These assignments will require you to write reports, give presentations and take part in role play activities. Please note that you must complete all six units to gain accreditation.

What will I be able to progress to?

Combining this course with other advanced level options will enable you to progress to university to complete a retail-related or other degree. Alternatively you may choose to move straight in to employment in areas such as retail management, general business management and distribution logistics. Other humanities and business-based national awards and AS-levels combine well with this subject.
