What makes a successful tourist destination? This course will interest you if you would like to learn about the different elements that contribute to the travel and tourism industry. You will investigate different tourist destinations and discover what makes them appealing to visitors.

Required qualifications

Five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English language.

What will I study?

The course will focus on:

  • investigating the travel and tourism industry
  • how travel businesses operate
  • discovering tourist destinations
  • customer service and employment in travel and tourism.

On the course you will:

  • carry out case study analysis of the travel industry
  • research the industry through trips.

Method of assessment

You will be assessed by coursework portfolios; there are no examinations.

What will I be able to progress to?

As part of a well-balanced advanced level programme the progression opportunities to higher education are wide and varied. This qualification is also valued in the travel and tourism industry and successful completion of this subject will enhance progression to roles such as travel agent and hospitality and event management.

Please note that you need to study this course for a full two years to gain the qualification.
