Cricket academy
The cricket academy offers students an opportunity to train and to improve their skills, technique and fitness. If you feel you have the skills to represent the college, please email cricketacademy@newvic.ac.uk or call 020 7540 6953. If you prefer more recreational cricket come along to our ‘open to all’ cricket sessions.
Coach education, volunteering and work opportunities
A key aspect of the NewVIc sports academy is to give students the opportunity to become qualified coaches and officials in their chosen sports. Students are supported financially in achieving this. Various programmes in place to support this target include:
- Cumberland SSP Leadership Academy
- Pro-Active East Recruit into Coaching Scheme
- Newham Sports Development Unit Coach
Education programme
Once qualifications have been achieved students complete a fixed number of volunteer hours coaching or officiating delivery at NewVIc or in local schools and clubs, supported by the sports academy team. Following this, students may then be offered paid employment either through NewVIc or our key partners.
Community links and school sports partnerships
The NewVIc sports academy team works with local feeder schools and the Cumberland School Sports Partnership to provide facilities, competition, coaching and leadership opportunities for students within the community outside of college time.
