Volunteering

Many NewVIc students take part in volunteering both in the college and in the local community. This is a great way to make a contribution to the community and helps you to gain useful skills.

Student ambassador

Students volunteer at college events to help with tours of the campus and welcoming visitors.

Student magazine

A student-run magazine, NV, welcomes contributions from all students keen to practise their writing skills. Students can also apply for positions on the editorial team.

Young Enterprise

This scheme delivers exciting, practical, hands-on business experience to young people. NewVIc’s budding entrepreneurs regularly reach the finals with Urban Cumtomiserz, a t-shirt printing company coming an impressive second in the Newham finals last year.

Students’ union

The students’ union promotes the interests of students and is run by students. It represents the student body at cross-college committees and on the governing body. Elections take place in June and all students are welcome to run for one of the leadership positions.

Student council

Representatives from each group meet with staff to pass on the views of their classmates. The council provides a direct channel for the student voice and ensures that the views of students are taken into account when developing the learning, teaching and the college environment.

Reading scheme

One of the opportunities in the local community involves students going in to schools to help students with their reading.
