Art and design student wows London Fashion Week

NewVIc BTEC national diploma in art and design student, Miriam Mwangi (ex-Brampton Manor School), was awarded a prize for creativity at London Fashion Week.
The theme of the outfit was ‘arts and crafts with a twist’. The fashion show marked the end of the FAD Fashion Futures 2009 project which began earlier this year. A series of workshops about topics including garment design, fashion illustration and pattern cutting were run for 130 young people. After exhibiting their designs in May just 23 of the students were selected to go through to the next stage.
As one of the successful students, Miriam attended a summer school run at the prestigious University of the Arts London, Central Saint Martins. The week was spent creating the designs the students had devised, with staff and student mentors on hand to offer advice.
The garments were showcased at Freemasons’ Hall as part of London Fashion Week. Judges commended Miriam and awarded her the creativity prize.
