French skills put to the test

French skillsLast week the college welcomed Housse de Racket, an up and coming band from France.

Eleven A-level French students took on the role of music journalists and led a press conference with the band. Each student posed several questions to the duo in French which Pierre and Victor, the band members, then answered in French. The students translated both the questions and answers for the journalists and other students and staff in the audience.

The band is extremely successful in France and already has a strong following. They are now working to gain recognition in the UK which they see as the centre of the music world. The students quizzed them on issues including the meaning of their lyrics, the age of their fan base and what they do before going on stage to relax.

The students’ hard work and preparation did not go unnoticed, as the press conference came to a close the band members commented on the excellent level of French spoken by the students.

After a quick lunch break Victor and Pierre were impressed by a cover version of one of their own songs performed by music students. The visit was filmed and photographed by media students which will accompany an article being put together by the A-level French group.
