Top exam results for NewVIc students

NewVIc students on results day with Principal Eddie Playfair
NewVIc students have once again shown that hard work and determination pay off, with some of the highest grades of recent years and an overall A-level pass rate of 95%. With 973 A-level entries, NewVIc is the largest A-level provider in Newham. Excellent results were also achieved in advanced vocational courses and 96% of this year’s leavers have applied to continue their studies at university.

Some of the college’s most popular subjects have seen an increase in the pass rate achieved this year: English literature has increased from a 97% pass rate in 2008 to 100% this year; French has increased from 92% to 100%; further mathematics has increased to100% from 85% in 2008.

Many of NewVIc’s A-level courses achieved 100% pass rates, including art, classical civilisation, film studies, geography, government and politics, media studies and Spanish. There were excellent results in six subjects where the pass rate was between 96% and 98%, including economics, English language, financial services, psychology and sociology. An impressive 100% of film studies students achieved an A-C grade.

Students on vocational courses have also demonstrated excellent results.  Their success will allow them to move on to further study at university or will equip them with the skills, confidence and experience to start a career in their chosen area. NewVIc entered more than 400 students on vocational programmes this year and there were 100% pass rates on many of the courses, including the national awards in digital media, music composing and travel and tourism. Eight national diploma courses achieved over 90% pass rates including four 100% pass rates. Triple distinctions were achieved by over 60 students.

NewVIc’s Principal, Eddie Playfair, commented:

“We’re absolutely delighted with this summer’s successes. They are the well deserved reward for all the hard work of our students and staff throughout the year and these results mean that most of these young people will get on to the university courses they applied for. We’re particularly pleased that the number of candidates achieving grades A or B has increased to 359, over one in three entries, and that 16 out of 35 of our subjects achieved 100% pass rates. This confirms that NewVIc is an excellent place to study if you’re ambitious and want to achieve the best you can. Well done everyone!”
