Award-winning short story
NewVIc A-level student, Zele Huma, recently discovered that she was a winner of the Newham Writing Competition with a short story entitled ‘Aurora Borealis – The Lady Aiken’.
Zele studies A-level English literature and loves writing in her spare time. She was inspired by Roald Dahl from a young age and hopes to one day work as a teacher whilst continuing with her writing.
As soon as Zele heard about the competition being run by Newham Libraries and Arts Festivals Service in association with Spread the Word she started thinking about the story she could enter. The theme for the competition was ‘The Changing Face’ in response to the dramatic changes taking place in the borough at the moment.
The impressive piece of writing shows a brilliant imagination and certainly impressed the panel of judges. Zele was invited to an awards evening at Stratford Library where she was presented with first prize for the under 21 short story category.
