NewVIc students market German products
Before half term, NewVIc welcomed a group of students from Berufliche Schulen Korbach und Bad Arolsen in Germany. Their visit marked the launch of a European Business Project involving NewVIc BTEC national diploma business students.
The students from both colleges are working together to devise a marketing strategy for a specific product. The project involves German manufacturers including Almo, Continental Contitech and Mauser. Each company has enlisted the help of the students to research the UK market and recommend a suitable strategy for the launch of their products.
In April the NewVIc students involved in the project will travel to Germany to continue the project. The students will tour the participating companies and present their recommendations to the companies’ managers. In the meantime the students will continue work on the project through the use of the college’s virtual learning environment, moodle.
NewVIc business student Nahir Omar-Issa, 18 from Stratford, commented on the experience:
“It’s a great way to learn about how to carry out market research and launch a product, it’s a real product too which makes it more interesting. I’m enjoying working in a team with people I’ve not met before, with people from a different culture. I’ve learnt quite a lot of German too!”
The project is being led by Wasif Minhas, NewVIc’s programme team manager for business. Wasif described his hopes for the project:
“This is exactly the right kind of experience our students need to excel on their qualification. It brings the subject to life and enhances their learning experience. May be most importantly the biggest impact is on the students’ own personal development. They develop, mature and take on a whole new approach to learning and the way they interact with others.”
