Double win for NewVIc

NewVIc’s youth activity leader, Helen Lam, was presented with an award for ‘Best Link Teacher’ by Young Enterprise (YE). It was a complete surprise to Helen who had no idea that one of NewVIc’s YE companies had nominated her for the award.
Fifteen other link teachers across ten boroughs were also nominated for the award but it was Helen who impressed the judges. Amar Lodhia, YE Development manager explained why Helen was the chosen winner:
‘The supporting statement from one of the managing directors of TAG (NewVIc YE company) was a fantastic summary of the positive and inspirational effect Helen has had on the students participating in the programme. Her hard work and determination for this programme has not just been seen by myself, but the students and now our superiors at YE.’
Helen was not the only NewVIc winner. This year the college entered three teams in the Newham finals. All three teams impressed the judges and ‘Urban CustomiserZ’, a clothes customising business, was awarded a prize for best trade stand and came second overall. Helen spoke of all the companies’ success:
‘I am so proud of all of the companies who took part; everyone was professional and completed all the tasks set by YE to a very high standard. All the students worked really hard to make a success of the companies, and on the finals day all did so well, they are a credit to themselves and the college!’
