Functional Maths (Level 1) for Adults

Course Overview

A good understanding of maths will help you to get the qualifications for the job that you want. This is an intensive programme which equips learners with practical skills for GCSE Maths, work and everyday life.

This course is free for all adults who have never previously studied Functional Skills in Maths.

There is no formal qualification required for Level 1.

What will I study?
  • the application of number in real life and the accurate use of measurement
  • this includes calculating household bills
  • exploring how interest rates work on savings accounts
  • you will also look at the conversion of travel money

Method of assessment

You will take an exam and will be expected to complete weekly homework and participate in regular tests to ensure that you are progressing well.

Other information

This is an intensive course and you will be required to work hard throughout the year. We expect a high level of attendance, and you will be asked to sign a learning contract at the beginning of the year.
