How to Apply

How to apply for courses starting in 2020. This page has all the information you need to help you make an application to the college.

#1 – Choose the Right Course for You

NewVIc is London’s largest sixth form college and as such has one of the widest course offerings around. We want to ensure that you choose the right course for you. Use the course pages as a starting point and come along to an open day for further information and advice from staff and students.

What you choose to study will depend on your interests, your career plans and your expected grades at GCSE. Find out more about your course options.

NewVIc has a team of very experienced and well-trained advice and guidance experts on hand to support you through the decision-making process. They run advice evenings providing the opportunity for a one-to-one conversation about your options. You can also contact them on 020 7473 4110 and select option 3 or by email, advice@newvic.ac.uk with any questions.

#2 – Complete the Application Form

You can apply online here.

Take your time completing the application form to make sure you have provided all the information we require.

If you have any additional learning support needs, such as for dyslexia, please make sure you tell us on your application form. This will help us to make sure the right support is available to you when you start your course.

Our closing date for priority applications has been extended to 1 May, but due to the popularity of many courses we recommended applying as early as possible.

#3 – Attend Your Interview

Once your application has been processed you will be invited to attend a telephone interview.

In response to social distancing measures, we have made some changed to our interview and selection process for 2020.  You can find out more about the changes here.

The interview is an opportunity for you to speak to the teachers about your application so that you are confident that you are making the right choice. It is a chance for us to establish whether you are suited to the college and to the course you have applied for.

The interview is also a chance to make a good impression on the college and your interviewer. You should prepare well for your interview and think about what questions you may be asked by your interviewer and what questions you would like to ask them. Some examples of interview questions you might be asked include:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why have you applied to do the course?
  • Which subject is your strongest in school and why?
  • Which subject are you least successful in?
  • How would your teachers describe you?
  • What is your greatest achievement?
  • What do you do in your spare time?
  • Why do you want to study here?
  • Why are you interested in this course?
  • Why should I offer you a place?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
  • What are your future career aspirations?
  • What would you like to study at university?
  • Is there anything you would like to ask us?

If your interview takes place at the college there is more to the experience than just your interview. You will have a welcome talk from one of our senior managers and a tour of college facilities with a learning mentor and student ambassador as well as an opportunity to speak to staff and students about the subject you’re applying for.

#4 – Accepting Your Offer

If you are successful you will receive confirmation of a place at NewVIc. The offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grades for your chosen course.

#5 – Attending Summer Induction

If you have accepted an offer you will be invited to the college for summer induction, which is your chance to get to know the college and your fellow students before you start with us in September. The days take place after your GCSE exams and enable you to experience your first days as a NewVIc student, meet others on your course and take part in some of the clubs and activities on offer.

If the college remains open due to the coronavirus pandemic, alternative arrangements will be made.  We will notify you of any changes.  You can find out more about this in our Frequently Asked Questions

#6 – Enrol at NewVIc

This is where you will formally register for your courses and receive your NewVIc student ID. We will notify you of which day you need to come in to enrol.

We hope that you achieve your target grades and can enrol on your first choice of course. However, if you do not achieve the grades stated on your conditional offer you can still attend enrolment and we will advise you on the options open to you.
