Successful completion of a broad GCSE or equivalent programme, including a 9-4 grade in English Language or Mathematics, plus A*-D in another relevant subject, as well as a good school reference and an interest in sport and exercise.

This course is an ideal starting point if you are interested in working in the leisure and sport industries. With a specific focus on health, fitness and exercise, you will learn about the function and structure of the human body and movement in sport.Develop your leadership skills by working with young children in the community, and through work experience within the Sports industry.

Method of assessment

This is mainly assessed through coursework, however some elements of the course have external tests.

You will be able to progress to the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness (see page 107) before applying to university or relevant employment.

Other Information

You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) form confirming that you have no criminal convictions that prevent you from working with children or vulnerable adults. It will be administered by the college at the start of the course. The cost is £20 (non-refundable).
Students on a Level 2 Diploma will also  be studying towards Maths and/or English Level 2 qualifications (see pages 131 and 132) if they have a grade 4 or below at GCSE. Students with Grade 5 and above in both Maths and English will undertake the Higher Project Qualification (see page 121) alongside their vocational qualification.
