Safeguarding and Welfare Advisors
NewVIc is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students. All students should be kept safe from harm, including any form of abuse, sexual exploitation or radicalisation. We protect our students from extremists who advocate violence, religious hatred, or racist, sexist or homophobic views.
Our safeguarding and welfare advisers also help with:
- finance and benefits
- immigration issues
- health matters
If there is something an adviser cannot help you with, they will refer you to an external agency to get the practical support you need.
NewVIc has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and colleges and Newham Borough Metropolitan Police.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools and colleges the day after a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident in the home the previous evening.
We are keen to offer the best help and support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial in effectively meeting the needs of the children and families involved.
At NewVIc we work hard to ensure that the college is a safe space for LGBTQ+ people to study and work. We have a weekly support group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) students and their straight allies. This group provides a supportive and safe environment, promotes LGBTQ+ awareness through events and helps the college community to be a safe place for all students regardless of their sexual orientation.
