What’s New at NewVIc Event

Hosted at NewVIc in October

This event is aimed at Heads of Year 11, careers leaders, advisors and information, advice and guidance (IAG) practitioners from local secondary schools in Newham Borough.

We aim to develop a close working relationship and create networking opportunities with local schools in Newham in order to support your students with their options and make informed choices about their post-16 studies.

Our aim is to share:

  • relevant and up-to-date information
  • offer the opportunity to network and strengthen links with our local secondary schools
  • inform you of curriculum changes to post-16 education, BTECs and A-Levels
  • share our new curriculum offers and information about our Student Services department, student development opportunities and our extensive enrichment programme.
  • Optional tour of the College campus to view our facilities

SENCO Coffee Afternoon

Hosted at NewVIc in October

The session is aimed to build a close working relationship with Senco practitioners in Newham with our Foundation Learning and Inclusive Learning support teams.

The session aims to:

  • support you in delivering a smooth transition for students with additional learning and support needs 
  • Inform you about the range of support provisions available
  • Inform you about the range of Entry Level and Level 1 programmes available
  • Inform you on progression opportunities for students starting at Foundation Learning
  • Inform you of upcoming information and advice sessions for SEND students and their parents
  • Optional tour of the College campus to view our facilities

Year 11 Assembly Presentations

In schools

The Year 11’s assemblies are delivered by our Principal Mandeep Gill in Newham schools to inform students about their wider options after school.  The presentation will also:

  • cover the difference between A-Levels and vocational courses, demystifying opinions of programmes
  • the importance of attending college Open Days to research courses and find out more about progression opportunities
  • the support provisions available
  • wider extra-curricular enrichment activities and student development opportunities available at NewVIc
  • inspire and motivate learners to pursue an area of study they are keen on or passionate about

We will also share profiles of students who previously attended your school, their development, progression and destinations after college as a point of inspiration for students.

Careers Fairs, College Roadshows and Parents' Evenings

In schools

Our trained advice and guidance practitioners are available to attend your careers fairs and related events to:

  • offer information, advice and guidance to students in year 10 and 11 to assist them in their post-16 research
  • answer questions relating to subject combinations, entry requirements, progression routes and career pathways
  • distribute prospectus’s and application forms
  • invite students to upcoming events at the college to further support them in their research and decision making process

This is also an opportunity to maintain our close working relationship with you and work together in supporting students’ transition phase into post-16 studies.
