Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness

LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA

This is a two-year course and equivalent to 3 A Levels.

This course will enable you to gain a qualification in Sport and Exercise Science which will prepare you for a career in sport working with renowned athletes. Students who undertake this course will be able to work in a range of different professions such as Sports Coaching, Fitness, Nutrition, Psychology, Physiotherapy, and Sports Massage. Studying this course will deepen your understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of Sport Science, Exercise and Development, developing your sports skills and knowledge, interpersonal communication skills and learn to understand issues that affect personal sports performance.

You will cover topics that link closely to specific employment areas and have the opportunity to have valuable work experience within the sector. You will learn about fitness testing programmes and the nutritional value of diet and performance.

+ Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (average score of 4)

These must include:

  • English Language or Maths at grade 4

If you have not achieved a grade 4 in GCSE English or maths you can retake one GCSE alongside your Extended Diploma programme.

Students currently taking a Level 2 vocational course will need a minimum of a Merit in a related subject.

Every student will receive an exclusive NewVIc branded sports top that must be worn during practical lessons, assessments and visits.

You will also be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS). It will be administered by the college at the start of the course. The cost is £20 (non-refundable).

Various members of the Leisure, Tourism and Sports teams have played to a competitive level in selective sports, there is even an ex-footballer within the sports team. Staff also have extensive experience working in the aviation industry.

The Sports team specialise in knowledge and skills in fields like PE teaching, sports coaching, physiotherapy, psychology and related areas. The team are involved in developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes that enhance physical literacy, skill development and overall wellbeing for students and college athletes.

Sports teachers are also at the cutting edge of technology and use the latest resources and software to enhance student experience and progress, with this they are passing on vital skills for the development of students in the industry in particular areas such as sports analysis.
