Meet our Experts:
Rosemary O’Sullivan

Teacher of the Blind / Visually Impaired

“I work directly with students that have a wide range of visual impairments. In order to ensure my students are getting the best from their course, I collaborate closely with curriculum teams and each individual student on a one-to-one basis, to ensure they have all the support and guidance needed to learn and succeed.”

The consequences of neglecting dyslexia

Expert support changed Harvinder’s life

Harvinder enrolled at NewVIc on the Level 2 Childcare course. During his initial interview he raised concerns about his struggles with reading and writing. Having had no previous assessments, he was assessed and diagnosed as being one of the most severely dyslexic students at NewVIc.

Thank you NHS!

Entry level students

Entry Level 2 students thank NHS staff and key workers by creating posters and writing letters to their local hospital.

Dear NHS staff,

I am writing to NHS staff to say thank you for working.

NHS is now going to work now.

They protect themselves well done for smiling. Thank you for coming home and telling people about coronavirus.

I love drawing rainbows because I stick it in the window sill to say thank you for the NHS.

Well done NHS.

From Jeremy

Which way of learning suits you?

There are lots of different ways you can learn, there is no right or wrong way. The trick is discovering which way suits you best. Our teachers and support staff tailor their teaching and support to best suit your learning needs. Here are some of the different learning styles which you may benefit from.

hands on learning

If you prefer to learn by getting your hands on the latest equipment and technology, trying out new concepts and working on real projects, a vocational course may be best suited for you. Our vocational programmes allow you to directly apply what you learn and can give you the added benefit of practical experience. When applying to university or employment, you’ll need to demonstrate your passion for the field you wish to study. The benefit of studying a vocational course is that you automatically gain the practical experience to show this.

seminar style learning

Our teachers use seminar style learning with students to help develop analytical thinking skills. Inspired by university style learning, small groups will discuss exam questions or work out a solution to a problem. Hearing from many points of views and perspectives helps students to deepen their understanding, evaluate and increase their ability to execute high level thinking skills.

group learning

Group learning helps students to work together as a team. You may feel that you thrive in a bigger group of students, absorbing knowledge through group sessions and bouncing different ideas and opinions off each other. This approach helps to build leadership and communication skills.
