NewVIc performing arts students work with producer and screenwriter from The Roundhouse

Before the half-term, NewVIc performing arts students were offered an exciting opportunity to participate in an industry talk with a producer and scriptwriter from The Roundhouse. The Roundhouse in Camden is an iconic live performance venue that hosts music, theatre, comedy and spoken word performances.

Students met Rebecca; a theatre and music producer and scriptwriter for the Roundhouse. Students took part in a dynamic workshop focused on careers in the Performing Arts industry followed by a talk and Q and A. Rebecca discussed her work producing music festivals such as Glastonbury as well as her work as a screenwriter for a variety of TV shows including ‘Top Boy’.

Jana, vocational performing arts student, said:

‘The talk that we had with Rebecca was super insightful. I learnt that there are so many roles within the industry and within the arts. The opportunity to ask questions was super helpful as it gave me insight into career pathways.’

Charlie, vocational performing arts students, added:

‘I really enjoyed finding out an honest opinion about careers in writing for the film industry. It helped me understand that there is no set path.’

Students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop with Rebecca and hope to use the skills and tips learnt from the time spent with an industry expert for their future careers.

The Roundhouse is also a creative youth centre where thousands of young people, artists and emerging talent produce extraordinary work, engage in creative projects and opportunities, and are supported to manage their mental health and wellbeing. NewVIc students look forward to getting involved in this in the near future.
