Inspirational NewVIc students recognised by Association of Colleges Sport Awards 2023.

NewVIc students Chloe and Nefeli have both won AoC Sport Awards. Chloe received the award for Inspirational Student of the Year and Nefeli won Volunteer of the Year. There are 3 award categories available, covering student, college and staff awards. Chloe and Nefeli were both selected for 2 out of 9 AoC Sport Awards 2023 presented online earlier this month.

The AoC Sport awards are a chance for member colleges from across the country to showcase and celebrate the achievements and inspirational work of students and staff in college sport.

Both Chloe and Nefeli were nominated for their outstanding work supporting, encouraging and inspiring their peers in a variety of sports. Both students volunteer with the Sports Academy giving up their time to connect with the student community. The college offers a range of opportunities with wellbeing support, exciting clubs and societies, elite sports and volunteering activities where students can develop their skills and talents while making new friends.

The AoC Sport awards represent the highest successes of young people in Further Education sport and physical activity, in addition to highlighting the dedication of staff and students who support and nurture others.

Sufyan Mukhtar, Sports Activator Officer added:

“This award is a testament to both of our students for their outstanding work in inspiring others and volunteering in sport. These two students have gone above and beyond to give back and positively impact the college and community through working incredibly hard to support, encourage, inspire and motivate other students. A huge thank you and congratulations to Chloe and Nefeli for achieving this award.”

Chloe, Inspirational Student of the Year winner added:

“It means the world to have received this award. To be awarded for inspiring other students, and young girls is just amazing. Playing sports at NewVIc provides so many opportunities for young student athletes that may not have had opportunities at other colleges. It was the main reason why I chose to come here. Without the support of all my fellow sports students and fantastic staff, I don’t think I would have achieved this award.”

Nefeli, Volunteer of the Year winner added:

“I am absolutely over the moon with the recognition from AoC Sport Awards for the Volunteer of the Year award. Volunteering in sport made a nice change to my day-to-day study routine and was something I looked forward to doing outside of lessons. Thank you to everyone that was involved in the nominations and putting me forward - it means a lot to me.”
