GCSE English and maths resit students prove hard work pays off
January 2026 may have got off to a chilly start, but there were warm celebrations and smiles on campus as GCSE Maths and English resit students collected their GCSE results – proving that hard work does pay off.
Ayobami, currently studying BTEC Business Level 3 at NewVIc Sixth Form Centre achieved a Grade 6 – his second attempt at trying. He said, ‘I am so pleased with my results. I received brilliant support from my teachers and the half-term workshops really helped me.’
R, studying Level 3 Media also smashed it; picking up a Grade 5 in English and a Grade 4 in Maths – it was also her second attempt. She commented; ‘It feels unreal. My teachers were helpful. Their style of teaching was easy going and really supported my progression because the techniques they used were different to the way English and maths was taught at school.
This experience has changed me as a person; it's taught me to believe in myself and not to give up. I made a conscious effort to focus on my English and maths – and listen to my dad and sister who both encouraged me to ‘push through.’ Now I have the grades I need to apply to do a Level 5 Apprenticeship!!’
Humayra, English and Maths, Curriculum Manager said, ‘We are proud of all our students, no matter the grade they achieved. Our students showed real commitment and are proof of what can be achieved in a short space of time with the right support, if you put your mind to it.’
