A Level Maths students celebrate success in UKMT Senior Maths Challenge

A talented group of 17 A Level maths students proudly represented NewVIc Sixth Form Centre, part of Newham College London in the UK Senior Maths Challenge, a prestigious national competition organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).

A talented group of 17 A Level maths students proudly represented NewVIc Sixth Form Centre, part of Newham College London in the UK Senior Maths Challenge, a prestigious national competition organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT). Renowned for promoting advanced problem-solving, logical reasoning and creative mathematical thinking, the UKMT Challenge provides a platform for students across the UK to stretch their mathematical abilities.

This year, A Level maths students from NewVIc Sixth Form Centre achieved an excellent set of results, earning a total of:

  • 2 Silver Awards

  • 5 Bronze Awards

  • 10 Participation Certificates

They tackled a demanding set of problems designed to challenge even the most able mathematicians. These outcomes reflect the hard work and determination shown by participants.

Angelo, A Level student, said;

“The questions were tough, but it was really rewarding to test myself against a national standard. It’s helped me to think about maths in a new way. I’m very happy that I was awarded a silver award. I am proud of my efforts as I wasn’t expecting it. The support from my teachers was amazing throughout.”

Sam, A Level student, added;

“I received a bronze award, which I’m very pleased with. The test questions challenged me to think outside of the box. I enjoyed trying to break each problem down and look at it from different angles - even when the solutions weren’t obvious at first. Taking part in the challenge helped me to become more confident in tackling unfamiliar questions and it has inspired me to keep improving my problem-solving skills.”
